Waking up from deep slumber, the State Government today suspended
Kalinga Stadium in-charge Prasant Kumar Sahu for ill-treating hockey Olympian Dilip Tirkey and players of the new team constituted by Dilip Tirkey Sports Research and Development Foundation.
According to State Sports Director Dr Prashant Kumar Pradhan, Sahu has been suspended with immediate effect and placed at Keonjhar. At the same time, Keonjhar District Sports Officer Kumar Ranjan Panda has been transferred and posted as the new in-charge of Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik regretted the ill-treatment of Tirkey and assured that the matter would be investigated. On the other hand, Tirkey expressed his happiness for the prompt action against Sahu and thanked Sports Minister Pravin Chandra Bhanjadeo and Director Pradhan. He also said that he was withdrawing his decision not to enter Kalinga Stadium.
``I am happy that the Government took prompt action against the stadium in-charge, who has been discouraging and harrassing users of the beautiful stadium,`` said Tirkey.
